inspired by Carol & Steve who drove from Fresno, CA to Pensacola, FL and back in little more than a week, with stops in the Grand Canyon, Oklahoma City, NOLA, Pensacola, NOLA, Austin, Tucson & San Diego.
also inspired by a video John Timmons shot for last year's 100 Days project and though I thought I'd be able to find it without delay, it's harder than I thought. however, I do think it was his satellites surround us (and preamble crawl) that stuck in my memory so vividly and then promptly shook itself all around.

Day 54 1/2
It was the summer of fruit flies
first saw them, lacing fruit
with seed and expelled breath, a swarm of
monkeys with moonlight pale bones
jutting out after curfew, screams swallowed
and coughed down hollow throats
while I focused on learning piano in the
basement: chord, scale, staccato, do re mi
drunken fingers pecking like hungry beaks
below the pearly surface of night.
Hold back my pinkprism, prison
from draining away with washergraywater,
to sweep and scoop the ashes as the snail moves
their words away soon, knowing full well that
soon means different things to journalists
(I try always to name my summers)
in the shoe garden where Ifirst saw them, lacing fruit
with seed and expelled breath, a swarm of

Hold back my pink
from draining away with washergraywater,
to sweep and scoop the ashes as the snail moves
(counterclockwise,)
knowing full well that waters would laptheir words away soon, knowing full well that
soon means different things to journalists
